Kia ora and welcome to our Pukeko Nest Literacy Page. This page has been created to give you a clear understanding of the Literacy learning in our hub, and also to enable you to reinforce your child's learning at home. The online game suggestions at the end of the page are some of the great games to use at home with your child.

Your child will be bring home a reading book in their Reading folder Monday to Thursday. The book will be one that your child has read in class with the teacher. As well as a book, they will have a Sound book with the letter of the day and an optional follow up page that reinforces the sound.They may also have a cut up sentence to reassemble. As your child progresses other challenges will be provided such as a phonic Space Challenge and an Early Words Book.

Please keep these activities enjoyable for you and your child. If they are too tired or it all becomes too hard to read the book, try reading the book to them, or a page each, or in the morning. Failing that tell us and take the book home the next day! Your child may be too tired to do these activities, especially when they first start school. I believe the most important thing you can give your child is a love of reading. Reading to your child 15 minutes a day is the most beneficial support you can give your child.
